My name is Tammy and I am considered severly obese. I was wondering if you will do this surgery on some one who wants to get pregnant and have a baby? They say It is easier to get pregnant when you are not over wieght. |

i had gastric bypass april 30th 2007. have lost 57 pounds so far. My crime is i started smoking again. I already know how i need to stop again. I had a scope yesterday and they found ulcers all around the surgical site. great. So i put them up and i will try again. The also have me taking carafate with the prilosec. to help . My question is does smoking stop the rate of weight you loose? For some reason i think if it did that would help motivate me. thanks for listening. nikki |

I don't even know if this question can be answered but I'm wondering if anyone knows the average amount of weight that bypass patients lose. |

I am a heavy smoker. I know I have to stop smoking, trust me I know. It's not easy - especially with the fear of the inevitable weight gain after quitting. BUT, I have recently been approved for RNY and I have to be a non-smoker before the opperation. How far in advance do I have to quit? I know I can't be the only one out there and really need help with this. I think the smoking is probably harder for me to stop than the eating. |

Let me introduce myself. My name is Susan, I had lap RNY gastric bypass on Nov. 19, 2002. I lost a total of 185lbs. and after surgery. I was not prepared for my abundance of excess skin. I live in the eastern panhandle of WV. I had to travel a good 2hrs drive to find what I thought was a good PS. I did all the research and interviewed 4 PS. I chose a PS that made me feel safe, he said trust me, don't micro manage the surgery. HOW STUPID WAS I!!!!! I had a severe hernia and my breasts went from a 50DDD to flat tube socks hanging below my waist. I am 5'6" and I didn't want big breasts, maybe a C cup. He told me to TRUST HIM HE WOULD MAKE ME LOOK IN PROPORTION TO MY CHESTWALL. I TRUSTED HIM AND HERE I AM A YEAR LATER.
I know that PS after WLS is sometimes 2 steps forward and 1 back. But I went backwards for 10 months and had 3 surgeries.
My first breast surgery left me with my left breast completely under my arm pit and my right breast was on my collar bone. I CRIED AND WAS HORRIFIED. I did the massages and the binders and I tried to be patient. My PS told me to be patient but when he saw me for my followup he said I would indeed need another lift and reduction. DOUBLE BUBBLE!!! At the time my implants were under the muscle.
2nd BREAST SURGERY: Another lift and reduction. This time over the muscle. Results: VERY SQUARE BREASTS!!!! He didn't seem bothered. NO FEELING IN LEFT BREAST. That's a chance you take! AND MY LEFT BREAST WAS 1 1/2 TIMES LARGER THAN MY RIGHT BREAST. My breasts hung very low on my chest and were still flat on top. I CRIED!!!!
3rd BREAST SURGERY: He said this would be it. My last breast revision. RESULTS: Square breasts. Left breast much larger than right. No feeling in left breasts. Breasts still hung low on my chest. AND DID I MENTION THE HUGE DOG EARS THAT NOW HUNG OFF TO THE SIDE OF MY BREASTS!!!! MY BREASTS ARE WIDE, I HAVE NO MIDDLE CLEAVAGE AND I HAVE NO FORWARD PROJECTION. I CRIED!!!! I LOOKED LIKE FRANKENSTEIN WITH WINGS!!!
Needless to say this past year has been full of tears, depression and heartache, and let's not forget the pain. Each of my surgeries neither corrected but meerly compounded the problems.
WHY DID I STAY WITH THE SAME PS? I am not a dumb person, some would say I'm controlling! I GAVE AWAY MY CONTROL!!! I TRUSTED!!!
I PROMISE YOU THIS IS GOING SOMEWHERE. A week before my 2 month checkup from my 3rd breast surgery, I was online, looking up breast revisions. I read a testomonial online that I could have written myself. I GOT BRAVE AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR A FREE CONSULT. Again I traveled 2 hrs from DM to VA this time.
THAT IS WHEN I MET DR. MICHAEL BROWN of Herndon, VA. FIRST LET ME SAY I AM NO LONGER CRYING!!!! Dr. Brown was very compassionate and his expertise was evident as he described how we could restore my breast mounds ( I had none). He obsesses in the fine details. I can't say enough about his skill as a PS but it is his caring that is so evident.
My breast revisions were like doing construction on a collapsed house without tearing down the house!!! I needed different implants, bigger ones that would fit my chestwall better, my pockets on the sides were closed, alot of permanent sutures and a lot of pain. Did I forget another lift!!!
RESULTS OF MY FINAL? BREAST REVISION: I now have middle cleavage, I have a nice round breast mound AND BEST OF ALL....NO DOG EARS!!!! Again DR. BROWN'S attention to detail is so evident. I can best describe my vanishing dog ears is as if someone gently carrest the sides of my breast. He followed the upward sweep of my breast as in an underwire bra.
I AM SORRY THIS IS SO LONG. It took me along time to get the nerve to post. I felt embarrassed and ashamed. 3 surgeries and each one worse than the next!!!
HOWEVER, as I dry my tears, I CAN TELL YOU I AM PLEASED NOW WITH MY BREASTS. I CAN SMILE NOW and be happy with my accomplishments. NEXT IS MY TUMMY REVISION!!! AND DR. BROWN IS MY PLASTIC SURGEON!!!!
Thank you for listening. ANd thank all of you for being so brave and posting.
