How the Volumetrics Diet works
The Volumetrics diet is based on the theory that people feel full on fewer calories when they eat foods that have a lot of volume for the number of calories (low energy density foods). Examples of these kinds of foods are soups, salads, skim milk, fruit, whole grains, and vegetables. Many of these foods are high in both water and fiber. Both water and fiber will fill a person up and water helps dilute how many calories are in a portion. It is also recommended that women on the Volumetrics diet drink 9 cups of water each day while it is recommended that men on the Volumetrics diet drink 12 cups of water each day.
Advantages of the Volumetrics Diet for weight loss
The Volumetrics diet may be popular if a person likes to be able to plan there own meals because there are no set meal plans. If a person likes to be able to eat a lot at meal time, they might want to try the Volumetrics diet; a person can have large servings on the Volumetrics diet as long as they choose low energy density foods.
Disadvantages of the Volumetrics Diet for weight loss
The Volumetrics diet may not be popular with people who do not like counting calories. Although there is a lot of freedom with what a person can eat on the Volumetrics diet, it is still important to look up the caloric content and energy density on foods to make sure they are low energy density. People who are looking to lose weight quickly may not like the Volumetrics diet because it is geared toward more gradual weight loss.
