Diet sales people will advocate their diet over another for various reasons and justifications. The easiest way to try and determine which type of diet may benefit a person is separate the diets into groups. Weight Awareness has attempted to simplify the diet plans by breaking into their target advocacy. Most diets either advocate limiting the amount of energy (calories) that are consumed, limit or restrict the amount of certain food groups that may be consumed; while other advocate a blend of both caloric restriction and food group restriction (or emphasis). Regardless of the diet method used to attempt weight loss, always remember to use more energy (calories) out than energy (calories) in. In short, no diet is complete without exercise. It should be stressed that any significant and true weight loss will most likely occur when the diet is used for an extended period of time. If the time period is short, then the weight loss is most likely associated with water loss or the weight loss will be temporary.
The division of the weight loss diets into the different groups is not based on any scientific model but rather by somewhat arbitrary divisions that have been created using the weight loss diets' own explanations, or emphasis. Those diets that are strongly advocating calorie restriction have been placed in the calorie counting position, while the diets that primarily advocate type of food to be consumed or avoided have been placed into the type of food category. The weight loss diets that seem to stress both calorie and type of food observations are in the combined category. Again, these arbitrary divisions are done to serve as an aide to the reader to help clarify the enormous amount diet choices available.
