The recommended daily allowance of zinc for both men and women is 15 mg.

Food rich in zinc include meats, fish, beans, whole grains, pumpkin seeds and mushrooms.

 

Zinc's role in the body

 

Zinc helps maintain a healthy immune system, synthesize proteins, and maintain healthy reproductive organs (especially in men). Zinc is also involved with wound healing.

 

Results of a zinc deficiency in the diet

 

A Zinc deficiency is fairly common and may adversely affect normal growth, skin and nerve health, natural healing ability, or the immune system.

 

Results of zinc toxicity in the diet

 

An excessive intake of zinc may result in nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain.
